Preventative Health

Our preventative health team is devoted to promoting a healthier lifestyle to reduce the risk of disease. As a combination of two previous project teams, mental health and diabetes, we spread awareness on the importance of taking care of mental and physical health by educating and increasing access to healthcare.Our team has previously worked on interactive activities and curriculum to educate youth about diabetes, deconstruct stigma around mental health programs, learn about self-care, and develop healthy eating habits. Our educational diabetes curriculum sought to raise awareness about the prevalence and impact of diabetes in the local community, as well as provide realistic ways in which individuals with diabetes can obtain the resources they need. Additionally, we curated a collection of culturally-relevant, diabetes-friendly recipes. Our curriculum aimed to address mental health through alternative routes such as mindful journaling and stress relief activities. Our other projects included an instructional yoga video intended for elders and the implementation of organizational plans to combat financial and daily life stress. All these projects were executed by proxy of cohesive, collaborative group work, involving the research of community needs, as well as continuous contact with local representatives.This year, we hope to revamp our cookbooks, seeking to utilize a unique approach to combat food insecurity by employing more accessible ingredients. We also hope to create our own recipes that include healthy alternatives of many famous Indian desserts. Our goal is to ensure diabetic patients can continue to enjoy their favorite sweets without compromising their health. We also plan to seek out new NGOs to expand our reach and continue to implement sustainable projects.
